Anime Movie Review: Non Non Biyori Movie Vacation (OKINAWA! How I wish to go there one day)

It's nice to have some time off, where you don't have to worry too much about life. Slice-of-life anime allows you to do that by giving you a perspective of life that one will usually never experience. For example, living in the outback, and I'm sure whilst the real life experience is going to be disappointing when you are comparing it to the anime, but that's the point of anime. It allows you to imagine, allows you to feel what it feels to live in a utopian society. Anyway, Non Non Biyori Movie is a sequel to the original series, which has two seasons, so any new content involving Non Non Biyori is always welcomed.

If you haven't watched the original series, I recommend watching it first, but it's not a must. For me, Non Non Biyori appeals to me because I see kiddos having fun - it evokes a sense of nostalgia, and I'm sure many other people would agree with me on that aspect. Many people wish they were back in their childhood with no worries in life if your childhood life was full of fun. If you watched the original series, you will get the general gist of the theme and we just see the crew go on a free trip to Okinawa and you see some cool bonding between the crew and also some of the characters they encounter throughout their trip. The art is superb and definitely of a higher quality than the original series, which is expected in a movie.
Surprisingly the anime did pretty well at the box office, had a box office gross of 190 million yen and was ranked 26th in the 1st week screenings. That's pretty good considering it's not your big names, so I'm glad it did well since it shows the studio that series like this can still do well in the box office. Hoping for more content involving Non Non Biyori in the future. There's not really anything much to review without spoilers - it's just a calm and enjoyable movie to watch and with most slice-of-life, there's generally nothing to fault, especially if it's a unique series like Non Non Biyori.
Oh Renge-san. Never grow old!

Overall Score: 8.5/10
Story: 8/10
Characters: 8/10
Art: 9/10
Sound: 8/10
Enjoyment: 9/10
