Anime and Manga Review: Mayo Chiki (Accidental Love)

Romance involving tomboys are rare nowadays, right now, it's the age of traps (guys looking like girls) rather than girls looking like boys. Not sure who I prefer, but both are certainly welcome. Mayo Chiki was one of these short romance series involving tomboys, and I said why not try it out since it's not too long. I watched the anime first, and then continued the story via manga form, since there was definitely no way there would be any future anime sequels to Mayo Chiki Season 1.

The anime served as a good introduction to the series, and I kinda wished there was a complete adaptation of the series, since the art in the anime was better than the manga (imo). The characters are also very unique too - you got your MC - Kinjirō Sakamachi, who has gynophobia (essentially nose bleed when a female touches him), and also has a pun in his name when the anime is ordered in Asian form: Sakamichi Kinjirō, and as a result, his nickname is chicken and we all know how that goes in school. We also got the cross-dressing butler (Konoe Subaru), who's afraid of sharp objects (that's not a really good trait for a butler who's supposed to protect the lady). You also got Kanade, who is a sadistic troll, teasing Kinjirou on his gynophobia, but she actually is serious in curing his condition (hey that's PRETTTY GOOOOOD). And the last major character is Masamune Usami, who calls Kinjirou "baka chiki".
Goddamn strong Chiki
The plot is your standard ecchi romance, and the only unique aspect is the characters and some settings, which you would rarely see in other romance anime since you got a female MC that's a tomboy, and serves as a butler to protect the lady. Nevertheless, the story is relatively short, and the ending is actually good - we actually see the two confess to each other, but that's to be expected since there wasn't any major competition in this series, and that's actually somewhat realistic. Most romance nowadays is your harem, and that's rarely gonna be applicable in real life (unless you a chad or you got the monies). Furthermore, it's an ecchi romance, and it's pretty good fanservice both in the anime and manga, but nothing too overwhelming, which is always a plus (remember guys MODERATION!). Unfortunately, I'm not gonna show any ecchi screenshots of the anime in this review, since 18+ stuff is a no-no (and I'm not sure whether ecchi breaks guideliens). Overall, I would recommend this series, since this is a short series, has a conclusive and satisfying ending, and has somewhat unique characters, and the tomboy theme is a different trend compared to the trend of
Wish I had a girl who likes me and looks at me like this. FeelsBadMan
liking traps nowadays.

Overall Score: 8/10
Story: 8/10
Characters: 8/10
Art: 7/10 (Anime Art > Manga Art)
Sound: 8/10
Enjoyment: 8/10
