Anime Review: Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (Ao-Chan Can’t Study): I Wouldn’t Be Able to Study Too ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Spring 2019 saw re-emergence of the 12 min episodes, which involved 4-koma series and also short original series like Isekai Quartet. Personally, these 12 min episodes are extremely suitable for 4-koma series since having a 24 min episode for 12 episode would result in filler content. Having it in 12 min episodes makes it succinct and also makes it less of a time commitment if you are a busy person who watches anime on the side. However one possible downside of these short episodes is that it's essentially 10 mins of actual story, the other 2 mins is the OP and ED songs, so this can lead to a lack of development. Fortunately, most of these short series don't really have a heavy plotline to follow, so that's why 12 min episodes are suitable. As of now, out of the short series, I only watched Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (Ao-chan Can't Study) and Isekai Quartet, and I found both relatively enjoyable. However the highlight today is Ao-chan Can't Study.

Ao-chan Can't Study is a short rom-com series that involves our smart female heroine, who gets distracted by people in her school life, and thus results in her being unable to study or study efficiently. The story is definitely more towards the comedy side, which is definitely appropriate when it comes to short series like this. There's also some sexual jokes involved but nothing too corny. However, if you are looking for some serious character development, you won't find it here, and you shouldn't expect it to find it here anyway. The art of the anime is amazing and I love the colouring of the eyes, and maybe these 12 min episodes allow studios to allocate more time for quality. The OP is also very nice to listen to. Whilst there is a lack of development, I wasn't really bored at any point of this anime since it was so short.
Overall, this anime is a short rom-com series that everyone can enjoy. It's not going to waste too much of your time and it's gonna give you a chuckle here and there. My favorite moments of the story involves our female heroine's father and his perverted mind, and how it makes Ao-chan perverted as well. Furthermore there's a lot of "plot" from our main character ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) so that's something that will never disappoint. However, if you are looking for something with a heavy plotline, you aren't going to find it here.

Overall Score: 7/10
Story: 6/10
Characters: 7/10
Art: 8/10
Sound: 8/10
Enjoyment: 8/10
