Anime Review: Oda Nobuna no Yabou ("Boobs aren’t fat! They’re filled with men’s hopes and dreams!")

If you played Samurai Warriors or learnt a bit about feudal Japan, you would know the well-known individuals like Oda Nobunaga, the man who tried to unite the whole of Japan. Well imagine that but he's being depicted as an anime girl, and most of the other individuals are also depicted as anime girl. Wow! No one can hate a gender-bender version of iconic feudal warlords. This caught my attention since we always see that meme where our MC says "Boobs aren't fat! They're filled with men's hopes and dreams", and I delayed it for a while, but since I didn't have too many anime downloaded, I just watched this since it looked somewhat interesting.

Anyway, there's nothing much to say about this other than it's decent to watch. Seeing cute anime girls beating up and fighting as if they are their real life counterparts is pretty funny even if unrealistic. Whilst I do not know whether the anime depicts real life occurrences, I'm sure there's at least some sort of inspiration from real-life events. However, I like how the gender bender version of the iconic feudal characters perhaps show what these guys could have been like if they were female.
The story overall is nothing too spectacular since it's pretty obvious that our male MC cannot die, and that the "good guys" always wins. However, the art is pretty well done especially in 2012 and there was no short-cuts in the animation. Furthermore the characters are likable and represented their real-life counterparts well - some of them even had similar armor (talk about attention to detail). However one may argue that these characters are stereotypical, but maybe it's how their real life counterparts act like - except maybe the ara ara character :') and of course goddamn lolis (need to make as many people as possible).  If you are also looking for romance, there's essentially just romantic feelings between our main characters, and there's really any other competitions. Too bad the anime ends on a part where it hints that there is more of the story to read about.

Overall, the anime is decent and if you are bored and you were curious like me in finding out the source of the iconic quote about boobs, I recommend it. If you are interested in anime depicting the Sengoku Period (Warring States period) like me, give it a try. After all, it's gender-bender feudal warlords, what not to like about that. Otherwise, it's not too special and I'm sure there's a lot more anime out there to watch (everyone has those big watch lists).

Overall Score: 7.5/10
Story: 6/10
Characters: 8/10
Art: 8/10
Sound: 7/10
Enjoyment: 8/10
